John Hess (LCMHC)

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor

What it’s like to work with John

John brings a calm presence to conversations that can feel anything but calm. He’s comfortable talking about the things people often feel ashamed to say out loud, and he makes room for a little lighthearted humor along the way. Being human is hard enough without having to pretend you have it all together.

His style is honest and collaborative. He shares what he’s noticing so clients can step back and see their patterns with more compassion. He’ll help them make changes, but he won’t take over their decisions. With couples, that often means slowing down a familiar argument and finding a way to say what’s underneath it.

John's Experience

John is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a bachelor’s degree in Family Science and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. His work has taken him into several different settings, including five years in community mental health with children and families and ten years in private practice focused on compulsive sexual behaviors.

His background also includes eight years of executive coaching and leadership development, along with two years of counseling adults and teens.
